First week back at school

We were so excited to be back at school. This week we tried to continue some of the online learning we had started. This was all about computational thinking and coding. We set up a breakout game based on coding and we were successful in breaking in just in the knick of time!
We also created a physical computer - one student was the programmer, one the bot and one the computer. It was hard to not think like a human and to just read or follow the instruction written even if it was wrong!

  1. This looks great Room 3 learners! Did any of you manage to get your human "bot" to the right spot on the first attempt? How do you think we could do this with 5 year olds? Do you think we might join up and do some coding together? I think that would be great fun and a bit of chaos! I don't know how well my five year olds could give instructions with not knowing left or right. We may have to use arrows instead...but I do know they sometimes have great difficulties following instructions - haha!

  2. Kia ora Room 3. I'm a facilitator from Auckland. This looks like an awesome activity. I bet it was hard not to think like a human! I'd be interested to know what kind of language the programmer has to use in their instructions.

  3. Kia ora Room 3 and Mrs Aperahama,
I love your action shots of your 'bots'. Sometimes the activity you did is called 'coding unplugged'. Why do you think it has that name? Here are some more activities you could try.
